FAQS
1) What is The Science CurioBox really about? The Science CurioBox is a digital Science magazine ( e-Magazine) suitable for children aged 8 - 12, who are currently studying in a primary school in Singapore. Although children in Singapore study Science officially from Primary 3, many schools already attempt to expose their pupils to basic Science concepts from Primary 1. The objective of The Science CurioBox is to stimulate interest in the study of Science, introduce Science as part of everyday life, reinforce the Science concepts learnt and help pupils to apply the concepts in both real and hypothetical situations. The e-Magazine typically consists of more then 30 pages of stunning images and interesting articles based on the latest Singapore Science Syllabus. Main concepts explored will be deliberately re-visited in subsequent issues to reinforce the child's learning and understanding. The articles will not be a repetition of the ones found in the earlier issues, but builds on knowledge already acquired. Special attention is also made to ensure that the magazines do not resemble guidebooks or school textbooks. Children can also access the online Learning Packages targeted at reinforcing the Science concepts explored in that particular issue of The Science CurioBox e-Magazine. The activities are designed to stimulate and sustain interest, reinforce concepts and assist in the application of concepts learnt. A typical Learning Package is likely to consist of: a) e-Flashcards (up to 6 activities per flashcard set); b) A word game e.g. Hangman, Word Search or Crossword Puzzle; c) A fun Q&A Quiz Game d) A formal Assessment (at as 11th Jan 2014, the latest Learning Package consists of 8 Learning Activities) By creating a fun-filled, yet deliberate learning environment, a child is more likely to sustain his or her interest in the subject. 2) Why should I be interested in 'The Science CurioBox e-Magazine'? The Science CurioBox is the brainchild of a former primary school teacher, who has more than 11 years of teaching experience. Of the 11 years, she has taught pupils of all abilities and has developed an interest in the teaching of Science to Lower-Average-Ability pupils, the use of ICT in Learning and also the teaching of Creative Writing. She has been actively maintaining a free writing resource website here. The Science CurioBox is very committed to introducing and reinforcing Science concepts in a non-threatening manner. 3) What is a 'Curiobox'? A curio box was used in the past to hold objects of curiosity. A curio box can be a petite box or even a huge cupboard dedicated to housing these tiny treasures.
